EEA Seminar: The Single Market Towards 2020

Published 17-12-2010
Participants from both the public and private sectors met at the Secretariat in Brussels 16 and 17 December 2010 for the biannual EFTA Seminar on the EEA.

On the first day of the event, representatives from the EFTA Secretariat, the EFTA Court, the EFTA Surveillance Authority, the EFTA Statistical Office and the EFTA Financial Mechanism Office gave presentations explaining the day-to-day operation and management of the EEA Agreement from their respective areas of work.

On the second day, participants gave a comparison of and insight into the EFTA and EU approach to the Single Market. Ms Emer Daly, Director of Internal Market Policy in the European Commission, DG Internal Market and Services, presented the Commission's view on the future of the Single Market, whilst Marius Vahl, Officer in the EFTA Secretariat, talked about the Single Market and the EEA. Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies, Jaques Pelkmans, presented an independent view of the Single Market.

The presentations were followed by a fruitful and dynamic discussion involving speakers and participants.

We would like to thank the speakers and participants for making the seminar a success.
