Discussions will focus on the need to preserve the integrity of the Internal Market and ensuring a well-functioning and homogenous European Economic Area.
In addition to discussing the overall functioning of the EEA Agreement, the EEA Council will hold an orientation debate on the topic of climate change and will look at the long-term strategies towards 2050 and the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
Before the meeting of the EEA Council, the EEA EFTA Ministers will have an informal political dialogue with EU counterparts on current foreign policy issues of mutual interest.
The EEA Council meeting will be chaired by Mr Stefan-Radu Oprea, Minister for Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship of Romania, representing the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and co-chaired by Ms Aurelia Frick, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein, representing the EEA EFTA States. She will be accompanied by Ms Ine Eriksen Søreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, and Mr Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland. The meeting is also attended by Members of the Council of the European Union and representatives of the European Commission and the European External Action Service.
The EEA Council will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the 25 years of the European Economic Area in the afternoon with the three foreign ministers of the EEA EFTA States and high-level representatives of the EU.
