EFTA Council prepares for winter Ministerial meeting in Geneva

On 27 October, the EFTA Council in Geneva discussed preparations for the meeting of the EFTA Ministers that will take place on 14 November under the chairmanship of Norway. The Council also approved a grant to the European Committee for Standardisation.

The EFTA Council discusses relations with partners outside the European Union and the upcoming EFTA Ministerial meeting

The EFTA Council met for the seventh time in 2011 in Geneva on 4 October 2011 under the chairmanship of Norway, which holds the rotating EFTA chair during the second half of this year. The Council approved amendments to the Vaduz Convention and discussed relations with countries outside the European Union.

Norway takes over chair of the EFTA Council

The EFTA Council met in Geneva on 13 July 2011. Norway, which now holds the rotating Council chairmanship, presented its priorities for the second half of the year. The Council reviewed last month’s Ministerial meeting in Liechtenstein and discussed relations with countries outside the European Union.

EFTA Ministerial meeting, Schaan, Liechtenstein, 21 June 2011

On 21 June 2011, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) held its summer Ministerial meeting in Schaan, Liechtenstein, chaired by Ms Aurelia Frick, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein. Ministers of the four EFTA States (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) signed a Free Trade Agreement with Hong Kong, China, represented by Mr Gregory So, Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development.

EFTA Ministers to sign free trade agreement with Hong Kong, China

On 21 June 2011, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will hold its summer Ministerial meeting in Schaan, Liechtenstein, which is holding EFTA's rotating chairmanship for the first six months of this year. The meeting will be chaired by Ms Aurelia Frick, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein.

EFTA Ministers will meet in Liechtenstein on 21 June

On 7 June, the EFTA Council in Geneva discussed preparations for the meeting of the EFTA Ministers that will take place in Liechtenstein on 21 June. Plans are underway that EFTA and Hong Kong, China will sign a free trade agreement at this occasion. The Council also reviewed ongoing free trade negotiations with Indonesia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as those with Montenegro.

EFTA Council discusses relations with partners outside European Union

The EFTA Council met on 11 May for the third time under the Liechtenstein chairmanship in 2011. The agenda included relations with partners outside the European Union, notably countries in Central America, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Preparations for the Ministerial meeting in June were also discussed.

EFTA and EU support training for statisticians

The EFTA Council met on 15 March for its second meeting in 2011 under the Liechtenstein Chairmanship. The EFTA-Eurostat Technical Cooperation Programme was adopted. The agenda also included EFTA’s recent activities with countries outside the European Union, notably India and Jordan.
