    The EFTA traineeships for 2015 are now open for applications. The duration of the traineeships is from 1 September 2015 until 30 June 2016.

    Liechtenstein, holding the rotating Council Chair for the first six months of the year, presented its priorities at the first EFTA Council meeting of 2015 on 3 February.

    On 15 January 2015, Mr Dag Wernø Holter of Norway took up the post of Deputy Secretary-General at EFTA’s Brussels office. He will head the Association's work in relation to the management of the Agreement on the European Economic Area.

  • EFTA approves agreement on deposit of its historical archives   08.12.2014

    On 8 December, during its final meeting of 2014, the EFTA Council approved the budget for 2015 and an agreement regarding the deposit of EFTA documents over 30 years old at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.

    Mr Johan N. Schneider-Amman, Federal Councillor, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, chairing the EFTA Ministerial meeting.

    On 17 November 2014, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) held its biannual Ministerial Meeting in Geneva. The meeting was chaired by Mr Johann N. Schneider-Ammann, Federal Councillor, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research of Switzerland.

  • Guatemala set to join EFTA-Central America Free Trade Agreement   06.11.2014

    At its meeting on 6 November 2014, the EFTA Council welcomed the outcome of the concluding round of negotiations between EFTA and Guatemala, paving the way for Guatemala’s accession to the EFTA-Central America Free Trade Agreement. An event to mark the conclusion of these negotiations will take place during the EFTA Ministerial meeting in Geneva on 17 November.

  • EEA EFTA and EU Ministers reach agreement on European Supervisory Authorities   14.10.2014

    On 14 October 2014, Finance Ministers from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the European Union announced that a solution had been found on the incorporation of the EU Regulations establishing the European Supervisory Authorities into the EEA Agreement. Joint conclusions were adopted at the annual meeting between EFTA and EU Ministers of Finance and Economy (the “EFTA ECOFIN”) in Luxembourg.

    The EFTA autumn Ministerial meeting that will take place in Switzerland was prominent on the agenda of the EFTA Council which met for the sixth time this year on 2 October 2014.

  • EFTA welcomes Norwegian Minister to Geneva Headquarters   17.09.2014

    On 16 September 2014, Ms Sylvi Listhaug, Norwegian Minister of Agriculture and Food, visited the EFTA Secretariat in Geneva. Minister Listhaug had a meeting with Secretary-General Kristinn Árnason and also met with free trade experts to discuss recent developments.
