Disparate inflation rates among EU and EFTA countries

Annual inflation in Iceland dropped from 21.9% in January 2009 to 15.3% in September this year.

A Eurostat publication shows that the annual inflation in Iceland during September 2009 was 15.3%, by far the highest rate in the EEA area. Among the EU Member States the highest annual rate of inflation was observed in Romania with 4.9%, whilst the lowest inflation was observed in Ireland with –3.0 %. The annual inflation in Norway and Switzerland was 1.4 % and -1.1% respectively. The estimated figure for EU27 is reported to 0.3 %, and for the Euro Area -0.3%.
