The International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) and the National Bureau of Statistics of China arranged the biennial meeting for statisticians from national statistical institutes, international organisations and academies in Shanghai on 14-16 October 2008. Participants came from all over the world and also international organisations such as the UN, the IMF, Eurostat and EFTA participated.
The theme of the conference was Smart Data, Innovative Uses – Reshaping Official Statistics.
The conference covered relevant topics for reshaping official statistics such as:
Use of administrative data in official statistics
- Challenges of building register based or other administrative based statistics
- More efficient use of statistical data
- Questionnaire design and testing
- User demands for official statistics
- Electronic reporting
- Process orientated statistical production
The EFTA Statistical Office contributed with a paper on "User Driven Challenges for Official Statistics".
