EFTA Seminar: The EEA and the EU’s Internal Energy Market
On 9 and 10 June 2011, around 90 participants from both the public and private sectors in the EEA met at the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels for its biannual seminar on the EEA.
On the first day of the event, representatives of the EFTA Secretariat, the EFTA Court, the EFTA Surveillance Authority, the EFTA Statistical Office and the EFTA Financial Mechanism Office gave presentations on the day-to-day operation and management of the EEA Agreement in their respective areas of work.
The second day focused on the completion of the EU’s internal energy market and the implications for the EEA EFTA States and their economic operators and citizens. The first speaker was Inge Bernaerts, Head of Unit, DG Energy, who presented the European Commission’s views on making the internal energy market a reality. Afterwards Luis Martín-Oar, former Head of Unit, ITRE Secretariat, gave a broad overview and a unique perspective on the internal energy market as seen by the European Parliament. The final speaker was Tor Eigil Hodne, Statnett’s EU Office, who focused on the challenges and opportunities that the internal energy market constitutes for Statnett, a Norwegian high voltage electricity transmission and distribution company.
The presentations were followed by a rich and lively discussion between speakers and participants.
EFTA would like to thank all the speakers and participants for making the seminar a success. Links to the various presentations can be found below:
