Six experts of Norwegian nationality and two experts of Swiss nationality will take part in the scientific work of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for the next three years. The experts will cover areas such as genetically modified organisms, plant health, animal feed, contaminants, nutrition and allergies.
EFSA has re-established its Scientific Committee and most of its Scientific Panels as of summer 2009. Approximately 170 experts have newly been appointed for a period of 3 years.
EFSA’s Scientific Committee and Panels deliver independent scientific opinions to support the work of risk managers along the food chain. The experts do not represent their countries in the Panels, but are chosen on the basis of their experience and scientific knowledge.
EFSA was established in 2002, following a series of food crises in the late 1990s. EFSA’s mission is to carry out independent and scientific-based risk assessments related to all areas of the food chain. The opinions and advice given by EFSA provide a foundation for food related EU policies and legislation.
