The Standing Committee of the EFTA States and the EEA Joint Committee meeting in Brussels on 24 and 25 April 2008

The EFTA Standing Committee met on 24 April to finalize preparations for the meeting of the EEA Joint Committee the following day.
In the Standing Committee meeting, the Norwegian Chair presented its Mid Term Report prepared by the EFTA Secretariat. The Chair drew attention to the progress made and in particular highlighted the launching of the public register earlier this month. The Standing Committee also received information from the Secretary General on the Commission Communication “European agencies – The way forward”.
The EEA Joint Committee the following day adopted 20 Decisions incorporating 35 new EU acts in the EEA Agreement. The Commission provided an interesting briefing on the climate change and energy package. This was followed by comments and questions of the EEA EFTA States. The Joint Committee took note of the JC Progress Report for the EEA Council.
