January 2006 Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs.  Political Director.
2005-2006 Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Iceland.
2003-2004 Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Head of European Affairs, Trade Department.
2000-2003 Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Political Department. Dealing with security issues, NATO, OSCE, bilateral relations with the United States, Canada and Russia.
1998-2000 NATO Headquarters, Political Division, Brussels. Officer, dealing with the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, monthly meetings and ministerials, and related partner issues such as bilateral relations with Sweden and Finland, as well as special efforts in the Caucasus region.
1995-1998 Embassy of Iceland in Bonn. Deputy Head of Mission. The Mission was also accredited to Switzerland, Austria and the OSCE.
1991-1995 Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Trade Department. Dealing mainly with EEA related issues, in particular information to the press and the public, EFTA issues, including free trade agreements.

 

Educated in Germany, Iceland and the United Kingdom in Political Science, European Affairs, history, German and English. Before her appointment to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ms Ellertsdottir worked as a journalist.
