Information on EFTA's Secretaries-General and their background.

Secretary-General:

 

Kaare Bryn Kåre Bryn - CV

The Secretary-General (SG) coordinates the Association's activities and is responsible for the overall management of its resources. The SG divides his time between the EFTA Headquarters in Geneva and the Brussels duty station. Before joining EFTA, Mr Bryn served as Norwegian Ambassador to the Netherlands (2003-2006) and as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to EFTA and the World Trade Organization (1999-2003).

 

 

Deputy Secretary-General Brussels:

Bergdis Ellertsdottir Bergdís EllertsdΌttir - CV

The Deputy Secretary-General assists the Secretary-General in coordinating the Association's activities in Brussels, providing support to the management of the European Economic Area. Before taking up the post of Deputy Secrety-General at EFTA, Ms Ellertsdóttir was Director-General for International and Security Affairs in the Icelandic Ministry for Foreign Affairs (2007).
 

 

Deputy Secretary-General Geneva:

Ivo Kaufmann Ivo Kaufmann - CV

The Deputy Secretary-General assists the Secretary-General in managing the Association's activities in Geneva regarding the negotiations and management of EFTA’s free trade agreements. Mr Kaufmann was previously Director for Trade Relations in EFTA (2008-2011) and Head of Division for International Investment and Multinational Enterprises in the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (2001-2008).
