The Secretary-General (SG) coordinates the Association's activities and is responsible for the overall management of its resources. The SG divides his time between the EFTA Headquarters in Geneva and the Brussels duty station. Before joining EFTA, Mr Árnason served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iceland to EFTA and the World Trade Organization (2005-2012), Director of the Defence Department at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iceland (2003-2005) and Ambassador to Norway (1999-2003).
Deputy Secretary-General, Geneva:
The Deputy Secretary-General assists the Secretary-General in managing the Association's activities in Geneva regarding the negotiations and management of EFTA’s free trade agreements. Mr Zbinden was previously Head of the Free Trade Agreeents and EFTA Divison of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Dag W. Holter
The Deputy Secretary-General supports the Secretary-General in administering EFTA's work in Brussels in relation to the management of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Mr Holter was Norway's Ambassador to Iceland from 2010 to 2014. He has previously also served as Deputy Head of the Embassy of Norway in Paris and as Counsellor at the Mission of Norway to the United Nations in New York.
Assistant Secretary-General, Brussels:
The Assistant Secretary-General is in charge of the EEA Coordination Division at the Brussels office. Prior to joining the Association, Mr Baur was the Deputy Head of the Liechtenstein Mission in Brussels from 2003 and an adviser to the Liechtenstein Government on issues related to financial services from 2000 to 2003.
