The EFTA Council discusses Ministerial meeting in December

The EFTA Council met in Geneva on 19 October 2009 for its ninth meeting of the year. It reviewed relations with countries outside the European Union, including Lebanon and Russia. It also discussed the planned meeting of EFTA Ministers in December 2009. The EFTA Council met in Geneva on 19 October 2009 for its ninth meeting of the year. The Council reviewed the results of the first Joint Committee meeting under the free trade agreement with Lebanon, held in Beirut at the beginning of October. Recent contacts with Russia and other potential free trade partners were also on the agenda.

The Council also discussed preparations for the EFTA Ministerial meeting in Geneva in December where Ministers are expected to discuss relations with present and future free trade partners and will meet with Members of Parliament from the four EFTA countries.

The next meeting of the Council will take place on 19 November 2009.
