EFTA Council

The EFTA Council met on 18 November for its tenth meeting in 2008. The Council discussed EFTA's trade relations with countries outside the European Union, as well as the upcoming EFTA Ministerial meeting on 25 November. Furthermore, the Council dealt with the statement of account for 2007.

The Council discussed relations with several of EFTA's current and possible future free-trade partners, including Egypt, Peru and India.

The Council also reviewed preparations for the informal Ministerial meeting to be held on 25 November in Geneva where Ministers will focus on EFTA’s trade relations with countries outside the European Union.  Ministers will also meet with the EFTA Parliamentary Committee, which is a forum for Parliamentarians of the four EFTA states, providing EFTA with a valuable link to political life in its Member States.

The Council also approved the statement of account for the Association for 2007 and discharged the Secretary-General of his responsibilities for the financial period in question.

The next Council meeting will take place on 8 December 2008.
