The EFTA Council met in Geneva 29 May

The EFTA Council met on 29 May for its fourth meeting in 2008. The Council discussed the successful finalisation of negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as well as the ongoing negotiations with Algeria. They also dealt with the upcoming Joint Study Group meeting with Russia.

In its fourth meeting of 2008 the Council discussed the format of meetings at the EFTA Summer Ministerial to be held in Lugano , Switzerland on 30 June.

With regards to third-country issues the Council discussed the finalisation of negotiations with the GCC and the ongoing negotiations with Algeria and Colombia . The Joint- and Sub- Committee meetings with Korea were analysed along with preparations for the Joint- and Sub- Committee meetings with Israel in June 2008. Furthermore, the progress of the Joint EFTA-Russia Study Group was examined.

In addition, the Council approved three technical cooperation projects for the Palestinian Authority and Grant Agreements from the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade.
