EFTA and Montenegro make headway in free trade negotiations

Published 23-05-2011
The EFTA States and Montenegro are approaching the conclusion of their negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) after a second round was held from 19 to 20 May 2011 in Balzers, Liechtenstein.

In the meetings, substantial progress was made towards the finalisation of the FTA, which will focus on the liberalisation and facilitation of trade in goods. Further discussions are required with regard to the conditions for market access for agricultural products and fish. The parties aim to conclude the negotiating process in the coming months.

Ambassador Norbert Frick of Liechtenstein led the EFTA delegation, while Mr Goran Šćepanović, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Economy, was the spokesperson for the Montenegrin side.
