On 3 June 2014, Ms Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, State Secretary and Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, Switzerland, gave a keynote speech at a breakfast meeting hosted by the EFTA Secretariat in Brussels.

As part of her trip to Brussels to prepare for upcoming negotiations on an institutional framework for Switzerland’s bilateral agreements with the European Union, Ms Ineichen-Fleisch spoke on the state of play of Swiss-EU relations to an audience of approximately 100 invited officials from both the EFTA and EU Member States and their institutions.

Her presentation focused on the situation following the Swiss voters’ approval this February of a proposal to limit immigration from EU countries and re-introduce an annual quota. The Federal Government is currently discussing how to implement the result of this referendum in Swiss law.

The keynote speech was followed by a question-and-answer session.
